Connecting Art and Sport

Dance is an important part of the World Scholar-Athlete Games, and perhaps the best example of linking sport and the arts. A friend of mine shared the following quote by Albert Einstein: "Dancers are the athletes of God".

Over the last several years, I have become a fan of dance, particularly because of the work of the Island Moving Company in Newport, RI. In fact, the Institute is in discussions with IMC about collaboration in the future.

The Island Moving Company's annual production of Nutcracker is a Rhode Island treasure and was recently the subject of a wonderful review in the New York Times by dance critic Alastair Macauley.

Mr. Macauley’s “Critic’s Corner” piece is an excellent complement to his review of IMC. In this article, he writes about the role of a critic, be it in dance or any other genre.
